Just took the a new net connection in at home. Location Bangalore. Before i went ahead and selected TATA there were several options like Reliance, Airtel, BSNL but some way or the other they were not suitable.
Reliance for example is a company that I don't really like. They make a lot of promise and maintain service in the beginning but they later become kind of (for lack of better word) pathetic. I know it because i was regular in their broadband center named, WebWorld. At first it was awesome. But then that was 3 years ago. Now i am surprised that they are still in business. Moreover Reliance has the policy like Walmart(as some seems to claim). They will crash the market price by reducing the price of their service even lower than what it will cost them. Since they are a very wealthy company they can afford to do that. As a result put the others out of business and later when they have monopoly they will increase the price twofold.
I was really keen on taking Airtel connection though but the problem was Airtel only provides broadband connection to selected areas in the city and the place where i am right now is not one of them. So had to rule out Airtel.
BSNL is another good service provider. Now when i say service I don't mean their customer service but rather the net connection. It is stable and no hassle kind of service. The only problem is that the amount of time and document they require to process your request is unimaginable. I had gone to their local exchange center to apply and they scared me with their talk. Now just FYI, I am not originally from Bangalore. I have been staying here since last 7 years but I was not born here. I don't speak the language that's spoken here locally. And this is very noticeable in my appearance. Well to cut the long story short the officer at the BSNL center asked for my address proof in Bangalore and as well as from native, asked for a driving licence and a voter id card. And even if I had provided all the of the demanded documents it would still take 2 months to give the connection to my place. Can you believe that? How can the public service bodies be so lethargic? That was disgusting. Anyway so the only option I had was TATA Wimax.
To be honest I was skeptical at first to take TATA, because I have read some reviews online which says TATA Wimax has the problem of getting disconnected very often. Anyway without a choice I took the TATA broadband connection and I must say that I am pretty happy with the connection. They are providing their promised speed and the connection is stable.
Now I remember what the people had been saying online about the unstable net connection and I think I know the reason. You see though the connection is stable the equipment(modem) they provided is not of a very good quality. Well cant actually blame them because they charge minimal for the installation charge. Thanks to the company where I am employed, installation charge for me was NIL. Now going back to the topic of connection, its not that my connection has not been disconnected. But I didn't have to call the TATA customer care and bother about their poor service and blah blah blah. I just go to my computer's network and sha
ring center and reset the connection. Now note, that the connection does not get cut off all by its own. It only happens if you happen to move the modem so that the Ethernet cable is disturbed. Also if you do not properly shutdown the computer the connection gets disturbed the next time you restart. Here all you need to do is disable and enable the connection. That's all. I have attached a screenshot as to how you can go about doing it.
So if you are in Bangalore and looking for boradband connection then you may seriously consider TATA. If you have BSNL land phone then BSNL is definitely a better option if you are willing to wait for a month or two. Airtel is good too but their limited service area is kind of a turn off. However TATA is providing service all over Bangalore and the installation took just two days as promised. I must say that this is the first time I am using any TATA product and I am really impressed.
